A black chain whips past Kisuke and curls around his opponent’s throat, dragging the Quincy off his feet, and a distinctive pinwheel-like blade sinks deep into the man’s back as Hisagi Shuuhei lands next to his downed opponent.
Except this is not the man that Kisuke healed but hours ago. This Hisagi Shuuhei’s hair is longer, wilder, like he hasn’t seen a brush or a haircut in years, and his outfit is less ‘uniform’ and more ‘whatever was available’. His presence is darker, sharper, honed in a way that Kisuke recognizes from his own youth, surrounded by assassins and those who exist only to fight.
(It’s not a presence he ever expected the Lieutenant to have, so what in the world happened…?)
Hisagi spins his zanpakutou and hurls it at Kisuke, the blade almost clipping him as it spins over his shoulder and embeds itself deep in the chest of a Quincy attempting to sneak up on him.
“Less calculating staring, more fighting for your life,” Hisagi tells him dryly as he yanks on the black chain and pulls his blade back into his hand. “Yes, time travel. Yes, things went to shit. Yes, I’m here to make sure that doesn’t happen. Any other questions?”
“Maa, merely if I can invite you out to dinner after this?” Kisuke can’t resist saying with a cheerful smile, inwardly pleased by the slight widening of Hisagi’s eyes at the question.
Hisagi blinks his surprise away and scoffs, giving Kisuke a challenging smile. “Only if you can keep up with me.”
“Well, with that sort of incentive, I fully intend to!”
